Description

Campus Liberty Alliance along with Liberty News Network will be reporting from The Fourth International Conference on Climate Change in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, May 16, 2010 through Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

More than 500 of the world's leading climatologists, economists, and public policy leaders will convene at the fourth International Conference on Climate Change, organized by The Heartland Institute.

Keynote speakers and panelists will focus on new data and research that contradicts claims by global warming alarmists that global temperatures have reached crisis levels and that human activity is the primary cause of that "crisis."

The conference will be held as the ranks are growing of world scientists whose research shows global warming is not a crisis, and that the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by human activity played an insignificant role in the moderate warming experienced in the twentieth century.

I had a great time at The John Birch Society Seminar and Council Dinner this past weekend in Parsippany, New Jersey. I gave a Powerpoint presentation during the afternoon seminar entitled, "Engaging the Youth of Today for Victory Tomorrow" that was well received. Many of the participants were very excited about the potential for Campus Liberty Alliance. My fellow presenters, John F. McManus, Clark Curry, Robert Unger, and David Giordano, did a wonderful job too. In the evening, James Perloff, Sheriff Richard Mack, and JBS Chief Executive Officer Art Thompson, delivered some powerful remarks to the capacity crowd. Many thanks to JBS Coordinator Kip Webster and his volunteers for putting together a great Council Dinner!

This article was brought to my attention by JBS Member Steve Diggins. CNN is once again up to their usual antics when it comes to mentioning the JBS (We are mentioned in the third and fourth paragraph):

Domestic terrorist William Ayers given the boot at the University of Wyoming! My good friend Michael Sawyer, John Birch Society Coordinator for Wyoming, alerted his friends and neighbors to call the university to oppose Mr. Ayers hypocritical talk entitled, "Trudge toward Freedom: Moral Commitment and Ethical Action."

Mr. Ayers was the co-founder of the communist revolutionary group the Weather Underground that conducted bombings of public buildings. To have a hypocrite like Ayers address college students on morality and ethics would have been absurd. Campus Liberty Alliance congratulates the University of Wyoming for making the correct decision to cancel the event.

Here is the press release:

Statement on Cancellation of Professor William Ayers's Visit to UW
March 30, 2010 -- The director of the Social Justice Research Center at the University of Wyoming cancelled the scheduled appearance of Professor William Ayers. The director announced his decision to the UW administration late Monday evening and noted there are no plans to host Professor Ayers in the future.
In his communication to the administration, the director apologized to the university community for any harm that may have come to it and cited personal and professional reasons, including safety concerns, for the cancellation.
In response, Tom Buchanan, president of the University of Wyoming, said, "I appreciate the consideration for the university that the re-evaluation demonstrated." Buchanan thanked the director for taking this initiative and for his willingness to respect the interests of the UW community, including statewide constituencies.
"Re-evaluation of this event was unavoidable. One way or the other, this event needed to be revisited, and I respect the director for being willing, on his own, to cancel this invitation. I'm satisfied with the outcome," Buchanan said.
He continued, "Academic freedom is a core principle of any institution of higher education. But with that freedom comes an obligation to exercise free thought and free speech in concert with mutual respect and acknowledgment of broader resource and security impacts on the campus. The exercise of freedom requires a commensurate dose of responsibility.
"Observers in and outside of the university would be incorrect to conclude that UW simply caved in to external pressure. Rather, I commended the director of the center for a willingness to be sensitive to the outpouring of criticism, evaluate the arguments, and reconsider the invitation.
"The University of Wyoming is one of the few institutions remaining in today's environment that garners the confidence of the public. The visit by Professor Ayers would have adversely impacted that reputation.
"During the past few days, controversy over Professor Ayers's visit has been intense. While this episode illustrated an opportunity to hear and critically evaluate a variety of ideas thoughtfully, through open, reasoned, and civil debate, it also demonstrates that we must be mindful of the real consequences our actions and decisions have on others."
