“Choose Freedom — Stop Obamacare” Campaign Update

Support for repeal is proving to be just as consistent as opposition to the plan before it was passed into law. Fifty-six percent (56%) now favor repeal, including 46% who Strongly Favor it. Thirty-seven percent (37%) are opposed to repeal, with 28% Strongly Opposed.

As shown by the May 11 Rasmussen poll quoted from above, 56 percent of “likely voters” support repeal of ObamaCare. And, this level of support for repeal has only varied by plus or minus 2 percent since the time of passage back in March. Furthermore, 46 percent strongly favor repeal, which is another very significant number compared to only 28 percent who are strongly opposed to repeal. We need to take advantage of this widespread opposition to ObamaCare to build support for nullification at the state level and repeal at the federal level.

“ObamaCare and You” TNA Issue

One of our most important campaign tools is the “ObamaCare and You” May 10 issue of The New American magazine. It’s available as both a printed issue and as a PDF download at ShopJBS.org. It includes five articles about ObamaCare: “Outcome of ObamaCare,” “Embattled Doctors & Patients,” “Promising Path for Healthcare Reform,” “The Constitution & Healthcare Reform,” and “Correction Please: Republican Hypocrisy on ObamaCare.” All five of these articles are also available to read and download for free at TheNewAmerican.com.

New ObamaCare 101 Video

Another important campaign tool is our new ObamaCare 101 video featuring our CEO, Art Thompson. This excellent video provides a concise overview of what’s wrong with ObamaCare and what needs to be done about it. It’s intended for educating individuals as well as for group showings. A flyer is available for promoting group showings. This video is available both free online and for sale as a DVD through ShopJBS.org.

Repeal ObamaCare

A “Repeal ObamaCare” legislative alert has been posted on JBS.org for our members and allies to use to contact their representatives and senators in support of repealing ObamaCare outright. Six bills to repeal ObamaCare have been introduced in the House and two in the Senate. All eight bills are almost carbon copies of each other and each would repeal the entire Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (i.e. ObamaCare). The two such bills with the most cosponsors are H.R. 4903, which was introduced by Michele Bachman (R-Minn.), with 54 cosponsors, and S. 3152, which was introduced by Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), with 20 cosponsors.

The legislative alert realistically points out that passage of a repeal bill would not be possible until 2011, and only then if enough new members are elected to Congress to constitute a majority in favor of repeal. However, President Obama would routinely veto a repeal bill, so final passage with a presidential signature would depend on the election of a new, pro-repeal president in 2012. Still, an ongoing campaign to repeal ObamaCare will be an important issue to help elect a better Congress in 2010 and 2012 and a better president in 2012.

Nullification of ObamaCare

Back on April 20 we launched our nullification of ObamaCare campaign with the article, “Nullify ObamaCare in Your State With This Model Health Care Nullification Act,” on JBS.org and a corresponding online legislative alert, “Nullify ObamaCare in Your State,” which enabled the sending of emails in support of nullification to state legislators, governors, lieutenant governors, and attorneys general. Thousands of people have already sent emails to their state legislators in support of the nullification of ObamaCare in their state. Over 900 have already downloaded the model nullification act from the Downloads section of JBS.org.
